Hamilton Terrace

London

Search for Enlightenment

RSL constructed this garden in London’s Maida Vale, which was designed by Charlotte Sanderson in 2015 to create a simple and elegant space for entertaining.  The garden’s focal point is Simon Gudgeo’s bronze sculpture, Search for Enlightenment, back lit at night to add theatre and draw the eye to the end of the garden.

The sculpture is framed by hornbeam trees, which also give dappled light to the stepping stone paths along the side of the lawn. Steps and a cascade of water conceal the swimming pool beneath the garden and lead down to a large, enclosed terrace. This is the perfect place to relax and entertain, especially as it is linked to the house via bifolding glass doors into the kitchen. The garden also acts as a link between the house and the mews.
