Winnington Road, Hampstead
- Town Gardens
- Urban Locations
After twenty-seven years of one family's use, this large garden in Hampstead, London, was in need of a radical rethink. A fresh eye was needed to breathe new life and character into its design.
Many years previously, the clients had installed a kidney-shaped swimming pool, which their children had enjoyed when growing up. Now, however, it was barely used at all. If the garden were to take on a new shape and stature, the pool would have to go.
We wanted to inject the garden with both classical and country references. We planned a path to lead all round the garden, to include a stone-columned pergola leading to a dining terrace. The focal point would be a pretty, octagonal gazebo with tile-pitched roof. The effect would be magical and effective.
