Upper Phillimore Gardens, Kensington
- Town Gardens
- Urban Locations
The development of this classical garden faced the challenge of being built on top of a subterranean structure that leads through to a garage with steps either side. The solution was to create a screen using a selection of trees, hedges and climbers therefore avoiding losing too much space within the garden and at the same time disguising the steps.
The client wished to have a large terrace area in order to be able to entertain all year round, so in addition we created a relaxed seating area against the living wall with the recessed fireplace. The central water feature was selected by the client from France and helps create the main focal point of the garden.
Barrel Quercus Ilex was planted to give form to the centre of the garden, which was then under planted with Buxus spheres with Taxus hedging on either side as well as White Roses, Japanese Anemone, Verbena and Astrantia. Along the boundaries we planted a line of Liquidamber in order to ensure privacy from the adjoining properties. The foliage is a dark lush colour, which then goes into incredible autumnal colours to give a spectacular end to the season.
