WOW!house 2025 – The Orangery Courtyard

RSL took part in WOW!house 2025 with a garden terrace installation marking our 50th anniversary. The project offered a fantastic opportunity to explore the relationship between interior and exterior spaces, a central theme in our approach to landscape design.

The space was conceived as an Orangery Courtyard—a refined garden terrace inspired by the elegance of a traditional orangery or Palm Court. Designed as a transitional zone between house and garden, it combined structured architectural detailing with an immersive planting scheme to create a calm, inviting retreat.

A stone fireplace set within a living green wall formed the focal point of the room. Ornate trelliswork, natural stone, and abundant greenery introduced depth and texture, while planting of varied heights and tones brought movement and a sense of enclosure. Screens positioned within the trellis created the impression of views to gardens beyond, enhancing the spatial experience.

We collaborated with McKinnon & Harris and Studio Miaki to complete the scheme. McKinnon & Harris supplied bespoke dining and lounge furniture known for their refined durability and elegance, while Studio Miaki provided the soft furnishings and material detailing, introducing a considered palette that ensured a seamless connection between indoors and out.

The Orangery Courtyard invited visitors to pause, step away from the surrounding exhibition, and experience the calm and clarity of a well-designed outdoor room—an expression of how landscape can extend and enhance the home.
