Technology and sustainability

This 2,000 sq m ultra-contemporary retreat in the Conservation Area of Hampstead is a tribute to design technology and sustainability. Though it’s set over three floors, most of the living space lies below ground.

The concept for the green roof was to integrate and meld it into the overall garden design, providing visual continuity between the upper gardens and the house. RSL planted the upper garden to look like a lush, exotic wood, creating a fun space for the family, with recreational pavilion and children’s play deck above the tree roots.

A series of floating steps interspersed with generous landings leads to the upper garden, while the sunny southern garden is accessed from the lower ground floor, where the interior and exterior are most closely related. Here RSL installed a sophisticated fire-pit and banquette seating to provide a great entertaining space.
