London
When RSL was asked to transform the garden of this lovely Chelsea family home, it was typical of many awkward London gardens, comprising a tatty lawn surrounded by a neglected low wall overlooking a large unsightly building.
The house was being entirely overhauled so RSL set out to create a low maintenance space in a fresh, contemporary style that looked attractive from every floor. A diamond latticed Western red cedar trellis planted with honeysuckle, clematis and jasmine restored privacy and screened the ugly view.
Inspired by Mediterranean gardens, RSL built a textured terrace inlaid with ivory river-washed pebbles and installed a sleek, marble water feature, designed in collaboration with Andrew Ewing, which draws the eye right through the garden. Clipped box and yew complete the scheme, resulting in a discreet, elegant garden that perfectly complements the house.
