The Old Garden, Twickenham
The Old Garden is a 3.2 acre property. The brief was to take an established, tired garden from the early 20th century into the 21st century while still keeping the old skeleton (including many valuable mature trees) incorporating a simple, classic layout.
The overall framework of the garden was kept with a central axis leading from the house half-way down the garden to a centrally placed ‘D’ which marks the change to differing sections within the garden.
From this point, paths flow out in a classic Patte d’Oie (Goosefoot) format, forming an axis to the swimming pool, tennis court and Yew Walk. The overall effect is to give a more relaxed and elegant feel to the garden.
